Many people enjoy walking and hiking in their own country, and even choose specialist walking holidays abroad as an alternative to a beach holiday.

Walking holidays are a fantastic way to see the country and enjoy nature while still feeling the warmth of the Mediterranean sun. A lot of the accommodations are set in the countryside, some in traditional villages which make the perfect base for walking holidays.

Specialist nature trails have been set up for guests on walking holidays, with some organised excursions and hikes also available.

"Walking Holidays. Retrace the footsteps of Aphrodite and Adonis in sunny Cyprus."    For walkers interested in a holiday in Cyprus, you won’t be disappointed. Two of the most popular areas with

walkers are the Troodos Mountains and The Akamas Peninsula. Both areas offer fabulous scenery and amazing views, and the pine forests of Troodos especially enjoy a much less humid climate than the coastal areas.

Cyprus has some unique Nature trails, which display the rich profusion of flora and fauna found in this very attractive mountain range, which attract many walkers every year.

APHRODITES TRAIL
It is believed, among other versions, that "Akamas" took its name from the Greek mythology hero Akamas, son of Theseus, who came to Cyprus after the Trojan war and founded Akamantis. The uniqueness of the Akamas Peninsula is not only due to its natural beauty but also to its cultural background. The prevailing peace and tranquillity, interwoven with the history, tradition and legend with which the area abounds, creates a climate of ancient mysticism for the traveller. This trail was named after the goddess of love, Aphrodite.

KALEDONIAN FALLS
This trail is about 2km long. We will start from the village of Platres, at an altitude of 1350 m. to Troodos at an altitude of 1580 m. Krios Potamos is one of the few streams in Cyprus which has water all year round. The nature trail runs along this scenic and cool ravine. The gurgling waters, the warbling birds, the variety of vegetation, the splashing water at "Kaledonia" and the thick shade of trees enchant the visitor.

ADONIS TRAIL
According to legend, Baths of Aphrodite was the place where Aphrodite met her lover Adonis for the first time. The trail starts at the Baths of Aphrodite's and, in part, follows Aphrodite's Trail for about 2.5 km. The total trail is 7.5 km.
