Troodos Mountains undoubtedly offers an alternative to the hot sunny days of summer. Situated over 1,900 metres above sea-level they offer spectacular views, relaxation and an alternative to sea and sand holidays.

Also known as “Little Switzerland” because of the pine trees and forestry.

One will be surprised how contradicting is the topography of Cyprus. It is an actual fact that in the winter months you can ski in the Troodos Mountains and 1 hours' drive later can be on a beach working on your suntan.

Troodos Mountains. Pine forests and lots of village culture.

Characterised by its various little villages where the peoples' main occupations are the production of cherries, apples and wine, fascinate every guest, as houses in Troodos Villages all have a chimney and slope pan tile roofs for snow.

Narrow streets usually all lead to the village Square, which is normally where the local church is located along with the local coffee shops and tavernas.

Kalopanayiotis, Moutoullas, Kakopetria, Platres, Omodhos, Pedhoulas and Prodromos are some of the villages well worth visiting.

Two of the most famous monasteries of Cyprus are located on the Troodos Mountains. Makheras Monastery and Kykko Monastery.

Kykko Monastery
is the most important of all. The richest Monastery with its “Golden Church” rather gold plated and a very nice Museum that is a must-see. Handicrafts by Monk’s that you would expect to take a lifetime to develop and many important more ancient remnants.

When at Kykko, the childhood village of Archbishop Makarios III, you can see Mount Throni just 1km away from Kykko, where he always wanted to be buried. His wish was granted when he died in 1977.

Lefkara
A famous mountain village, the home of the Cyprus hand-made lace, which allegedly captivated Leonardo da Vinci when he visited.

Numerous pretty villages set into pine-forests can be found, still with the same way of life as they had years ago with men dealing with the fields and growing cherries and ladies knitting laces for the summer for the guests to buy.
