Protaras and Paralimni are resorts that have the reputation of windmills and glorious beaches and tavernas. They are quiet resorts and will suit people seeking a relaxing holiday.
Protaras mainly caters for tourism and belongs to the Famagusta District of Cyprus. A quieter resort than neighbouring Ayia Napa and with much less of a 'clubbing' atmosphere, Protaras has grown into a family oriented resort, with plenty of bars and tavernas, and miles of sandy beaches - one of the best being Fig Tree bay.

Ayios Elias Church
Along the main road out of Protaras, you will see signs for Ayios Elias, a beautiful, small church set on the top of a hill. There are about 100 steps to climb in order to reach the top, but the panoramic views from the top are well worth the climb. At the top of the hill you will find the 'Tree of Remembrance', on which people tie a piece of cloth on a branch to remember somebody special. Ayios Elias is a small, local, Orthodox Church and if you visit early afternoon you may be lucky enough to experience the amazing sunset from the hilltop.
Fig Tree Bay One of the island's best beaches, this is perfect for families with young children because of it's shallow waters. Fig Tree Bay offers beautiful golden sand, and turquoise clear water along with plenty of watersports for the more active visitors. Also growing in the grounds of a local taverna in Fig Tree Bay, is Cyprus' oldest fig tree!
Cape Greco If you can drag yourself away from the glorious beaches for a day, take a trip to Cape Greco, a popluar place for walkers and cyclists.
The sea cliffs and the local fauna of the area make Cape Greco a very impressive area.
Maritime Heritage Centre In the Pernera area of Protaras you will find The Maritime Heritage Centre, a collection of Maritime objects from around the world, and all things relating to marine life.
The Ocean Aquarium Take a magical journey through rivers, lakes and oceans worldwide, and encounter hundreds of different species of sea life and later take a stroll through the tropical plant garden. A fascinating day out for all ages.
