The city is also home to the final resting place of St Lazarus in the city’s beautiful 9th century central church.
Another ‘must’ if you can drag yourself away from your Larnaca hotels is the Fort, which was used as a prison during the British occupation. The fort was originally built by the venations in the 15th century to protect the harbour.
You might also be interested in a day trip to Derynia, a now remote village offered for observation of the Green Line and the position of the Greek, UN and Turkish forces. At this point you may see the past famous city of Famagusta deserted. Many guests in Cyprus choose to visit this site in order to get a “Hands-On” experience.
Although many Larnaca hotels have their own beaches, it’s worth finding some of the beaches slightly out of town; to the northwest of Larnaca you will find white sandy beaches that are far less crowded.
